Waltzing Our Matilda
An Opera Queensland production
Created by Jason and Leisa Barry-smith and Narelle French
Presented by Queensland Arts Council and Opera Queensland
A theatrical journey through the wonderful music and history of Queensland as told by an Australian icon.
As Banjo Paterson sits and tries to write what will someday be his most loved work (Waltzing Matilda), he reflects on the history and characters of our great country and our vast state. Tales and characters come to life as the great poet searches his imagination for inspiration. You’ll hear classic Australian songs and little known gems from great Australian singers and historical figures such as Dame Nellie Melba and Peter Dawson, as Banjo weaves his poetic magic throughout the show.
Combining the soaring voices of Opera Queensland’s Young Artists, the musical expertise of Narelle French, and the flair of one of Queensland’s favourite performers, Jason Barry-smith, Waltzing Our Matilda promises to be a stunning night of sumptuous song.
